We recently revisited a gorgeous house out in Ashbourne where we designed and fitted this classic shaker style country kitchen and utility a couple of years ago. This characterful home was a dream canvas to work with. When designing this space we needed to consider how a new kitchen would sympathetically fit into this house. We also wanted to make sure that we were framing all of those beautiful countryside views with the design.
The homeowners decided to go for a bespoke smooth painted, shaker kitchen in Farrow & Ball Cornforth white with quartz worktops throughout both the kitchen and the utility space. These choices worked seamlessly with the character of the property, which features exposed wooden beams and oak barn style doors. A marble effect quartz worktop and brushed silver handles add understated luxury to this country kitchen. Lighting strips under the floating shelves and kitchen island further brighten up the room.
We used top of the range appliances throughout both rooms, from a Quooker boiling tap and Rangemaster wine chiller in the utility, to a BORA hob with built in extractor fan in the kitchen. Opting for this style of hob and extractor alleviated the need for a an overhead extractor hood, which would have taken away those amazing countryside views, and darkened the space. In the utility room, a farmhouse style sink looks out over rolling countryside. A cream Smeg fridge seamlessly fits in with the classic style of this kitchen.
Overall, the outcome makes for the perfect family home and entertaining space. With plenty of clever storage solutions, a kitchen island with bar stool style seating and far reaching views, it’s a pretty special place.
